He Said You Needed This
Episode IV - A New Hole: Part I
Scripture: Name above all Nains
Soon afterward [Jesus] went to a town called Nain, and His disciples and a great crowd went with Him. As He drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, 'Do not weep.'
Then He came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And He said, 'Young man, I say to you, arise.' And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.
Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, 'A great prophet has arisen among us!' and 'God has visited his people!' And this report about Him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country."
Luke 7:11-17
Part I: He Said You Needed This
God has a funny way of doing things. Seriously. What I can say with absolute certainty is in my experience, everything God says figuratively in the Bible is 100% true – even though I’ve experienced maybe 1.7% of what is literally in the Bible.
BUT, I’m here today to tell you that He has kept every promise He’s ever made to me – you know, all the promises that are in the Bible.
The promises He didn’t make to me. He made to other people. Those promises!
He keeps all of them. To you.
What I’m saying is, if you’re going through something right now, I can personally vouch for GOD – what He said to someone else, He’s saying to you now: you are going to make it. He will be faithful in bringing you through whatever thing you’re going through, because He told us how He brought other people through…their much different thing. People who are now dead.
And, THAT is the Bible.
See what I mean? Seriously funny.
But it’s true! Everything in life will happen the way He says it did – and, He means everything He doesn’t say. What He did for them, not exactly what you’re going through, and perfectly relevant for your life-or-death situation.
You can count on Him, because He showed up for them. That’s what He says He’ll do. It’s what He does. Because, it’s what He did.
So, go ahead and put next year’s goals on your vision board. You’ll still be around to see them through.
He said so. To me.
Ironically, my family is going through something right now. Actually, this is like the fourth awful thing we’ve been shoved into – in a seemingly circular Divinely Comedic journey through hell and back again – over the last several months. And now, right back in the middle of hell, what’s funny is while I’m clinging somewhat desperately to everything I know God says – along with a lot of clichés that He hasn’t said – He’s got me, boldly telling you, how He’s going to take care of everything you’re going through.
I know He will. He said He would. To someone else.
And the way you know He meant it for you is by the time you’re listening to this I will have made it through. It’s true! Google me. See?! Still kicking.
That is, unless I’m dead.
But, don’t take my word for it. Take His.
Like every other promise God has ever made, you can go ahead and put what you just read from Luke 7, IN THE BANK. Without question, I know my family is going to make it because of what He said He did for a widow in a little town called, Nain.
That’s putting it really simply, but ironically this is just the introduction of a broader work that’s still unfolding.
Just like my family’s breakthrough. And, yours.
Which, is funny: the irony of Him having me teach others with Authority on something He’s having me walk out simultaneously. He’s helping you by helping me help you by what he’s helping me through. That’s nuts.
But, seriously it’s the Truth. Because Jesus dropped everything He was doing and showed up for some woman nearly 2000 years ago, undid the worst thing that had been done to her; rescued her from financial destitution, rescinded society’s rejection of her, ended her suffering, made her trust God, and thousands more believe He is God: He’s gonna do it for you.
And somewhere in between, He will have already done it for me.
Just like He promised: someone else.
Yes, and amen.
Which is why, you actually SHOULDtake my word for it.
See that? Hilarious!
And, if you think about it, THAT’s the Bible: God sees His people going through a thing; God telling His people – usually through other people – what He’s going to do for them; God delivering His people from their thing and giving them what they really needed in their moment of need – just like He said He would; and, having everything He said, and He did, written down for posterity, in order to help a whole lot of other people in the future, with their thing.
And, as we’re going to keep talking about from here: He does it every time.
So, in all seriousness, let me be the first to welcome you to the other side of your thing. I’m glad you made it.
Just like He said you would.
